WDBJ7 News reporter Alison Parker, 24, and her cameraman Adam Ward, 27, were killed in a shooting captured on live TV Wednesday morning. The gunman, Bryce Williams (aka Vester L. Flanagan) remained at large for a time, but was eventually tracked down by police. Schools were placed on lockdown and he was pursued down I-81. He eventually turned the gun on himself, but survived his suicide attempt. When police got to him, he still had a pulse. He is currently listed in critical condition. The scene of sudden shock and horror at a pedestrian plaza in Moneta, Va. was captured during a routine news story on WBDJ7, a station in Roanoke. In the video, reporter Alison Parker is interviewing a woman, Vicki Gardner, at Bridgewater Plaza about tourism in the area. As they talk, about seven shots ring out, as Parker and the woman scream and take cover. Vicki was shot in the back and was last known to be in surgery. Alison and Adam were both killed in the attack.
After the breaking news this morning of a man opening fire on and killing a WDBJ7 news reporter and her cameramam, this video was posted by the killer himself, Bryce Williams (aka Vester L. Flanagan) on his Twitter and Facebook page. Both accounts have since been suspended. Bryce was a former employee of WDBJ7, hired in 2012, but fired a year ago. It’s where the two victims still worked and they were in the middle of doing a live broadcast for the news station at the time of the incident. He claims he shot them for turning him into human resources, although he didn’t say why…and for Allison Parker allegedly making racist comments. The woman being interviewed, Vicki Gardner, was shot in the back and was in surgery last we heard. Bryce Williams, after trying to elude police, forced schools on lockdown and was being pursued on I-81. When police found him, he turned his gun on himself, but survived the shot. He had a pulse and he is currently listed in critical condition.
Update on the shooter, he has died, due to his self inflicted gunshot. The woman he shot in the back has undergone successful surgery for her gunshot wound.
